<p>The Four Corners–Goodnow Farm Historic District of Princeton, Massachusetts encompasses a rural agricultural area with well-preserved buildings dating from the 18th to 20th centuries. It is located in the western part of the town, and is centered on the junction of Old Colony, Gates, and Thompson Roads. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The town of Princeton was settled in the mid-18th century. The main east-west road through the district, designated Thompson Road east of the central junction and Old Colony Road to its west, was laid out along an old Native American path, and was known from an early time as the County Road. Gates Road, serving the local area, was laid out in the 1760s. The oldest farmstead in the district, that of Jedediah Brigham, was established in the 1740s, and much of it remains with the descendants of its original settlers. Its core portion, including the surviving house, is one of the oldest farms in Princeton.</p><br>
<p>The house at 114 Gates Road was built in 1761 by Isaac Thompson, whose landholdings were to the intersection&#39;s northwest. The area has remained predominantly agricultural during industrialization to a lack of usable water power, and the laying of railroads was limited to a line running east-west to the south of the district. Only a few modest homes have been built in the area since 1950, and most of the other houses date to the mid-19th century or earlier. Most of the land use remains in traditional patterns of open fields and wooded areas.</p><br>
<p>The Carthage Courthouse Square Historic District is a historic district encompassing the courthouse square of Carthage, Hancock County, Illinois. The district includes 52 buildings, 42 of which are considered contributing to the districts historic character. The 1908 Hancock County Courthouse, a three-story limestone Beaux-Arts building, is the centerpiece of the district. The courthouse is surrounded by commercial buildings, most of them built in the latter half of the nineteenth century. Architect George Payne designed many of the districts commercial buildings, giving him a reputation which spread beyond Carthage; his works include Italianate and Romanesque Revival designs.</p><br>
<p>The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 13, 1986.</p><br>
<p>The Edgewood Historic District–Anstis Greene Estate Plat is a residential historic district in the Edgewood neighborhood of eastern Cranston, Rhode Island. The 34 acre area is bounded on the west by Broad Street, the east by Narragansett Bay, the south by Rosewood Avenue, and on the north by Marion Avenue, where it abuts the Edgewood Historic District-Shaw Plat. The area, originally part of a much larger property belonging to Zachariah Rhodes in the 17th century, was platted for residential development in the decades following the arrival of the streetcar on Broad Street, providing commuter service to Providence. The land was willed by Anstis Rhodes Greene to a group of heirs, who progressively developed their individual portions. The only significant surviving elements that predate this development are two small family cemeteries.</p><br>
<p>The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2015.</p><br>
<p>The Eastport Historic District encompasses the late 19th-century commercial center of the city of Eastport, Maine. Set on a five-block stretch of Water Street, this area was almost completely redeveloped after a major fire in 1886, and many of its buildings are the work of a single architect, Henry Black. The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982, and enlarged slightly in 2016.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The city of Eastport is located on Moose Island at the far southeastern tip of Maine, with the Canadian province of New Brunswick just across Passamaquoddy Bay. In the mid-19th century, Eastport served as a major regional commercial center, and developed a significant sardine-packing industry in the 1870s. On October 14, 1886, a fire devastated the city center, destroying its central business district and its commercial wharves. In the following year, the city rebuilt its downtown.</p><br>
<p>The rebuilt area extends along Water Street, the citys east-facing waterfront area, between Sullivan and Key Streets. There are 26 buildings that were built in 1887, with two more added by 1893, and one in 1928-29. Fourteen of the 1887 buildings were designed (or have been attributed to) Henry Black, an architect who had been based for some years in Saint John, New Brunswick. Black arrived in Eastport in February 1887, and was apparently the only architect directly involved in the rebuilding effort. Buildings typifying his work include the Eastport Savings Bank at 41 Water Street, and the Ferris & Son building at 4 Boynton Street, both Italianate in style, one in brick and the other in wood. Other architect-designed buildings in the district include the Peavey Memorial Library (1893, Rotch and Tilden), and the Frontier National Bank at 30 Water Street (1882, Charles Kimball). Most of the districts buildings are brick Italianate structures, although some are wooden, and the library is Romanesque in style. The 2016 enlargement added the former Seacoast Canning Company plant at 15 Sea Street; it was built in 1908 for what was at the time the world&#39;s largest sardine cannery company.</p><br>
<p>Uturunku  is a dormant volcano in the Cordillera de Lípez in Potosí Department, Bolivia. It is located in the Sur Lípez Province, San Pablo de Lípez Municipality. It is in the Central Volcanic Zone of the Andes, and its highest summit is 6,008 m above sea level. The volcano has two summits, with a fumarole field between them. The volcano&#39;s landforms include lava domes and lava flows.</p><br>
<p>The volcano was sporadically active during the Pleistocene, with the most recent eruption dated at 271,000 years ago. Since then, Uturunku has displayed fumarolic activity. Starting in 1992, satellite observations have indicated a large area of regional uplift centered on Uturunku, which has been interpreted as an indication of large-scale magma intrusion under the volcano. This might be a prelude to large-scale volcanic activity, including "supervolcanic" activity and caldera formation.</p><br>
<h2>Geography and geology</h2><br>
<p>Uturunku is a dormant 6,008 m high stratovolcano south of Quetena Chico, in the Altiplano of Bolivia. The edifice has a volume of 85 km3, covering an area of 400 km&sup2; on a base altitude of 4,500 m. It is constructed from porphyritic dacite lava flows and lava domes. Andesitic enclaves are also present and some dacites border on silicic andesite in composition. The edifice has been affected by glacial activity. The Lower and Middle Pleistocene lava flows form the base of the edifice and extend 15 km away from the volcano. Middle and Upper Pleistocene lavas form the upper part of the volcanoes and extend up to 10 km away. According to geological inspection involving both aerial surveys and field work, the longest lava flows appear to generate from the central vent. Flow features on the lavas are well preserved, and are blocky with high fronts. The flows are several tens of metres thick. A sulfur mine (22&deg;14&prime;50&Prime;S latitude, 67&deg;10&prime;53&Prime;W longitude) was reported in 1975. It was based on native sulfur and minor realgar in the volcanic ash, with an estimated 50,000,000 t of ore. A road was reported to have existed in 1948-1950, leading from Uyuni over Quetena to Uturunku. Laguna Celeste lies at the foot of the volcano and is fed by snow melt from the volcano&#39;s northeastern side. Mama Khumu, a lake on the eastern side of the volcano, is also fed from the volcano. Other lakes include Chojllas on the southeastern foot and Loromayu on the southern side. The Rio Grande de Lipez flows along the western foot of Uturunku. The 3 million years old Cerro San Antonio volcano lies north of Uturunku.</p><br>
<p>Uturunku&#39;s lavas contain biotite, hypersthene, ilmenite, magnetite, orthopyroxene and plagioclase. They also contain inclusions, a few percent andesite, norite and xenoliths derived from the crust containing sillimanite gneiss and igneous rocks. Morphological and chemical analysis of the eruption products indicate that the dacites formed by fractional crystallization of andesite magma. Some of the dacite magma was modified by mixing of dacite and andesite magmas. The magma also underwent oxidation and degassing during ascent. Analysis of the erupted dacites indicate that the magma was nearly water-saturated and stored at depths given differently as 2 - or 5.7 km by studies, and temperatures of 870 &deg;C. The chemistry and microstructure suggest that Uturunku magmas formed in magma chambers subject to episodic replenishment with hotter magmas. Major and trace element analysis indicates a substantial similarity of Uturunku lavas to local ignimbrites.</p><br>
<h3>Regional setting</h3><br>
<p>The Central Andes and the Central Volcanic Zone formed in response to the subduction at a rate of about 6.5 cm/yr at an angle of 25° of the Nazca Plate below the South American Plate. Uturuncu is located in the back-arc region of this subduction. The onset of the modern orogeny was precipitated by the breakup of the Farallon Plate 26 mya, resulting in accelerated and steepening subduction of the now-Nazca plate. After a 14 million year phase of shallow subduction, 12 mya the subduction steepened to the current angle of 30° by 3 mya. The Altiplano–Puna volcanic complex (APVC) formed during this time.</p><br>
<p>The APVC is an area of the Andes where an upper crust magmatic system has generated large-scale ignimbrite eruptions and calderas between one and ten mya. The melting of the crust that generated this activity is also thought to have contributed to crustal thickening in the area to about 70 km. An underlying area of partial melts (around 20% volume) with low density and seismic velocity and high conductivity has been identified with a top at 17 km depth. This area accumulates magma at an average rate of 0.001 km3/yr. This area of melt arches upward and has its thickest and shallowest parts below Uturunku, with the slowest seismic velocity zones located south and west of the volcano.</p><br>
<h3>Local setting</h3><br>
<p>Uturunku is located 70 km west of the main volcanic arc. Starting 11-10 mya ago during the Neogene, the Lípez area was affected by ignimbritic activity. Cerro Lípez formed in the Miocene from dacites and rhyolites intruding into Middle Miocene ash flows. Ignimbritic activity includes the 2.89 mya Pastos Grandes, the 1.98 mya Laguna Colorada and the 0.7 mya El Tatio ignimbrite. The smaller Vilama caldera formed 8.4 mya and the larger Panizo caldera between 6.8–7.9 mya. The Chascon–Runtu Jarita complex was the last active volcano in the area with intrusions dated 85,000 years ago. Further west on the border between Bolivia and Chile activity continues today with Iru Phutunqu, Olca, Ollagüe, Putana and others.</p><br>
<p>The volcano is constructed on local ignimbrite layers, the 8.1 mya Vilama and the 5.65 mya Guacha ignimbrites. The Lipez–Coranzuli lineament (also known as the Pastos Grandes-Cojina lineament) runs through the volcano, and seismic activity in the area is aligned to this and neighbouring NW–SE faults. These fault zones may influence the activity of the volcano and are associated with caldera formation. Volcanoes in the Uturunku area rise about 1,600 - above the surrounding terrain.</p><br>
<h2>Climate and glaciation</h2><br>
<p>Present-day climate conditions at Uturunku volcano are scarcely recorded. Most of the humidity comes from the Amazon basin in the east; this generates a decreasing gradient over the Altiplano westwards. The Lipez area is dry, receiving less than 100 mm/yr of precipitation. Because of this insufficient precipitation, there is no present-day glaciation on Uturunku despite the 0 &deg;C isotherm being lower than the summit of the volcano and of other neighbouring summits at 5,000 m.</p><br>
<p>The presence of a shallow (less than 100-metre / 330 ft) difference between the altitude of the valley bottom of the southern glacial valley, and its shoulders indicates past low-volume glaciation. Five different moraine stages between 4,800 m and 4,850 m altitude have been identified. Striated rocks and roche moutonnées are also present in the area. Based on helium-3 surface exposure dating, these moraines originated from Pleistocene glacier fluctuations between 65,000 and 14,000 years ago. The lowest of the moraines, and thus the largest extent of glaciation, coincides with the highstand of the "Lake Tauca" lake episode 16,000-14,000 years ago, where the Altiplano was covered by a large lake. Rapid deglaciation occurred after the disappearance of Lake Tauca 14,000 years ago. During the Tauca episode, water levels rose in the lakes around Uturunku.</p><br>
<h2>Eruptive history</h2><br>
<h3>Pre-Holocene</h3><br>
<p>Uturunku was active between 890,000 and 271,000 years ago. Lavas higher up the edifice are younger and less extensive. The volcano was constructed in two phases dated by argon–argon dating, one 890,000–549,000 years ago and the younger, less extensive one 427,000–271,000 years ago. The youngest age belongs to the summit lava dome. Older estimates by the Servicio Geológico de Bolivia proposed that the northern and western flows were between 10 and 15 mya old and the summit flows older than one million years.</p><br>
<p>Two lava domes south of the summit, with a combined volume of 1 km3, are the oldest structures of the volcano, having formed 1,050 ka and 1,041 ka. Lava flows on the southern and southwestern sides of the edifice have similar ages of 1,028 and 1,018 ka. Subsequently, two lava flows on the southern and eastern side of the volcano and a group of flows on the northeastern side erupted 890, 714 and 660 ka were the only eruptions until 595 ka. Ten domes and flows were erupted between 595–590 ka, including two large domes located north-northwest of the summit erupted at the start and end of this period. These domes formed directly on the Altiplano and are 500 m high, 1 km wide and have a combined volume of 0.4 km3. 549 ka the western dome was erupted 5.5 km southeast of the NNW domes; it subsequently collapsed, forming a debris avalanche that covered 1.3 km&sup2;. The largest lava flow from Uturunku was erupted 544 ka; this Lomo Escapa flow flowed 9 km over the ignimbrite plain. Based on a thickness of 200 m a volume of 1.7 km3 was estimated from this flow.</p><br>
<p>Starting from 450,000 years ago, the morphology of the flows change. Between 458 and 387 ka flows and domes are shorter and originate mostly around the summit area; the longest flow from this phase erupted 455 ka and is 2.6 km. The last major pulse occurred 316-267 ka, and its products have dimensions similar to those older than 500,000. The youngest flow in the southeastern summit area is dated 250 ka.</p><br>
<p>Volcanic activity at Uturunku was episodic, with bursts of eruptions separated by between 50,000 and 180,000 years of rest. Eruptions were likely voluminous, with lava flow volumes of about 0.1 - erupted in short time periods. Such eruptions originated from ephemeral magma chambers formed by repeated transfer of magmas from the APVC melt generating zone. In these magma chambers, andesites and silica-rich magmas formed dacites that erupted to the surface when the magma chamber grew to the point of rupturing its walls. Assuming that the magma output of the volcano was a total of 170 km3, the average flux rate was less than 0.00027 km3/yr, below the average for local volcanoes.</p><br>
<h3>Recent unrest</h3><br>
<p>The volcano has two fields of fumaroles (&lt;80 &deg;C) in the area between Uturunku&#39;s two summits and has caused hydrothermal alteration of country rock. These fumaroles form visible clouds of steam. This heat may have been replenished from the APVC melt generating zone or survived since the last eruption of the volcano. Fumarolic activity is distinct enough to be visible from ASTER satellite image but barely visible from the ground. The temperature of the hotspot has been relatively constant in contrast to Lascar. The presence of lava flows overlying moraines, which indicate post-glacial activity, is controversial; the summit lava flows have been glaciated.</p><br>
<p>Starting in 1992, and increasing in 1998, a 70 km wide circular region around Uturunku has been deforming at a rate of 1 -. Research has indicated that the sources must be deep to create large-scale ground inflation, but above the partially molten layer of the APVC partial melt zone. A ring of subsidence surrounds the uplift and expands the size of the deformed area to a diameter of 150 km. This subsidence occurs at a rate of about 2 mm/yr. The total volume changes over 14 years amount to 40,000,000,000 m&sup3; at a depth of 17 - below the surface. Magma accumulation rates of 0.01 km3/yr have been estimated. These inflation and accumulation rates are comparable to the inflation rates at Yellowstone Caldera and Long Valley Caldera in the United States and Lazufre (Lastarria–Cerro del Azufre) in Chile. The depth and scale of deformation and the absence of a large-scale hydrothermal system indicates that the ground inflation is unlikely to be hydrothermal. Evidence from prehistoric levels in local lakes and river valleys indicate that the uplift did commence less than a hundred years ago; either the volcano has experienced previous episodes of uplift which were then followed by subsidence, or the current pattern of ground movement is unprecedented in the volcano&#39;s history.</p><br>
<p>Anomalous seismic activity was also observed centered in a source 3 - deep, 4 km southwest of the summit. Microseismic activity was also registered. Such seismicity exceeds that of other volcanoes in the region (with the exception of Lascar during active periods, and Lastarria and San Pedro) and is unlikely to be normal background activity for the area. Some earthquake activity and seismic swarms were triggered by the 2010 Chile earthquake, which may be indicative of unstable hydromagmatic systems or interactions of the magmatic system with far field earthquake waves. Hypotheses regarding the earthquake activity either consider shallow faults deforming in a brittle manner, groundwater movements or a combination of these with a disturbance of a hydrothermal system. The presence of partial melts below the Altiplano–Puna volcanic complex suggests a magmatic origin of the activity.</p><br>
<p>Gravimetric data indicate that a vertical low density body connects Uturunku with the APVC magma body at a depth of 25 km. Several such bodies with radii 12 - are found beneath the APVC. In 2013, del Potro et al. estimated that this body may contain 25% by volume of molten dacite. The exact shape of this body is unknown due to insufficient resolution of the gravimetric and magnetotelluric measurements. The formation of buoyant mobile layers following heating may destabilize this magma mush and cause lavas to accumulate a few kilometres below the volcano and erupt.</p><br>
<p>Analysis of the electrical conductivity of the ground beneath Uturunku has shown the presence of layers where electrical conductivity is high. Apart from one shallow layer that may be associated with a hydrothermal system or past hydrothermal alteration, three large structures (volumes of 500 km3) in the shape of dykes have been identified. They may be magma chambers or the result of hydrothermal phenomena. Most likely, they are magma bodies containing large amounts of saline water.</p><br>
<h2>Threats</h2><br>
<p>The magma intrusion rate below Uturunku is considerably larger than the magma output of the Pleistocene volcano, being comparable to the magma flux of historic eruptions and estimates of magma generation rates in local caldera forming magma chambers. Evidence for the formation of such a magma chamber is elusive but might be hidden by the deformation activity of the APVC melt generation zone. Uturunku may be developing into a supervolcano, and a caldera forming super-eruption may occur there; this possibility has resulted in international media attention.</p><br>
<p>The Hohwart is a mountain near the village of Breitnau in the Black Forest in the German state of Baden-Wurttemberg. It is 1,123 metres high.</p><br>
<p>The Hohwart lies on an east-west ridge behind Breitnau. To the south the ridge slopes down over cattle pasture to the Breitnau bowl. To the north the slopes are wooded and descend towards the valley of the Griesdobelbach. The ridge continues northwest to the Otten (1040 m). Just over 1 km to the east is the Roßberg (1125 m) and 3 km to the east, across the Oberbach valley, is the highest mountain in Breitnau municipality: the Weißtannenhöhe (1190 m).</p><br>
<p>There is a bench and viewing point on the highest point of the Hohwart with good all round views. There are also signs of a schanze, part of a 300-year-old line of fortified earthworks that formed part of the Duchy of Baden&#39;s defences against the French.</p><br>
<p>A local footpath runs along the ridgeline and past the summit to the inn of Schaenzenhauesle.</p><br>
<p>About 500 metres southwest of the summit is a wind-powered generator in the saddle between the Hohwart and the Haldenbuck (1,090 m) to the south.</p><br>

<p>The Weißtannenhöhe is a mountain, 1,190 in the Black Forest in Germany and the highest point in the municipality of Breitnau.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>The Weißtannenhöhe lies within the municipality of Breitnau in the county of Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald in the German state of Baden-Wuerttemberg. It rises about 3 kilometres east of the church in Breitnau, 4 kilometres north-northeast of Hinterzarten and 5 kilometres north-northwest of Lake Titisee.</p><br>
<p>Across the Oberbach valley, 2 kilometres to the west, is the Roßberg (1,125 m) and, 1,500 metres beyond that, is the Hohwart (1,120 m). There are several viewing points in the vicinity of the mountain with good views over the local countryside, the Feldberg region, the Upper Rhine Plain and the Vosges.</p><br>
<p>On the western slopes of the Weißtannenhöhe rise numerous springs for the Ödenbach, one of the main headstreams of the Ravenna which flows through the well known Ravenna Gorge.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>In 1928, two cousins from Mannheim, Luise (25) and Ida Gersbach (35), were reported missing from their hiking holiday in the Black Forest. Their bodies were found in bushes on the Weißtannenhöhe and showed signs of having been sexually assaulted. Despite help from the public and even from mediums, Freiburg police were unable to solve the double murder.</p><br>
<h2>Summit</h2><br>
<p>The summit region is covered by a dense evergreen forest, although there is a viewing point below it and about 100 metres to the west, facing Breitnau.</p><br>
<h2>Access</h2><br>
<p>The Weißtannenhöhe is well served by footpaths and long distance trails. The Westweg and E1 European long distance path pass over the summit. Both trails run from the car park on the Black Forest High Road at Ramshalde, about 2 kilometres from the top, and from Titisee, a distance of over 6 kilometres. Numerous other trails run up or over the mountain from the nearby hamlets of Tiefen, Winterhalden, Eckbach, Siedelbach and Fürsatzhöhe.</p><br>
<p>The William Sauntry House and Recreation Hall is a historic property in Stillwater, Minnesota, United States, consisting of a late-nineteenth-century house and a 1902 addition styled after a Moorish palace. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1982 for its local significance in the themes of architecture and industry. It was nominated for its association with prosperous local lumberman William Sauntry  and for its fanciful recreation hall, one of Minnesota&#39;s best examples of a folly and a rare use of Moorish Revival architecture. Now in separate ownership, the recreation hall has been restored as a private home while the William Sauntry Mansion operates as a bed and breakfast.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The generally rectangular form of the mansion is complicated with gables and hip roofed bays. It is generally Queen Anne in style, but has Eastlake Movement millwork, an Italianate tower, and Gothic Revival details on the gables. The lower levels have horizontal siding while the attic level boasts fishscale shingling. A large porch with Corinthian order columns wraps around the front of the building.</p><br>
<p>Aligned directly behind the mansion is the recreation hall. This rectangular addition was originally attached to the main building by an enclosed second-level walkway. The exterior is stucco with inlaid stones. The roof is hipped with wide eaves supported by triangular brackets. An entrance from the side street is topped by a gabled dormer featuring a Palladian window with Moorish details. The recreation hall once housed a ballroom, reception hall, bowling alley, and swimming pool. The interior was richly carved and decorated with carved woodwork, double doors of leaded glass, and Arabic inscriptions.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>William Sauntry was born in poverty around 1845 in County Cork, Ireland. When Sauntrys father died a few years later, his mother moved the surviving family of seven to New Brunswick, Canada. Sauntry began working as a lumberjack, and in the late 1860s he and several family members moved again to Stillwater, Minnesota, epicenter of the Upper Midwest lumber trade. Within five years, the hardworking and ambitious Sauntry was partner in a lumber company. Soon he was part-owner of the St. Croix Log Boom and managing the local interests of Minnesotas leading lumber magnate Frederick Weyerhaeuser.</p><br>
<p>Sauntry married Eunice Tozer, the daughter of a business partner, in 1881—around the same time he commissioned a house in Stillwaters North Hill neighborhood. Initially a modest 40 by, the house grew along with Sauntrys fortune. By this time Sauntry was estimated to be worth $2 million, and a series of architectural modifications added rooms, towers, porches, and upper stories to the house until it comprised 28 rooms and 7,000 ft&sup2;.</p><br>
<p>By 1889 Sauntry had added a billiard room and an outdoor tennis court. However his passion for physical activity and entertaining guests led him to commission a freestanding recreation hall behind the main house in 1902. Moreover, his fanciful nature decreed that the hall would be patterned after a Moorish palace (the well-traveled Sauntry had reportedly been inspired by the Alhambra during a trip to Spain). Both Moorish Revival architecture and dedicated recreation halls had some precedence at the time, but were quite rare in Minnesota. Architect Benjamin Marshall of Chicago designed the hall.</p><br>
<p>By the early 20th century, however, the forests of the Upper Midwest were logged out, the St. Croix Log Boom went out of business, and Sauntrys attempts to invest in mining were not turning a profit. On November 10, 1914, the 69-year-old lumberman left his Blair Flats apartment in Saint Paul and checked into a downtown hotel, where he shot himself in the head. Although Sauntrys fortunes were in some decline, his wife and other close associates were mystified by his abrupt suicide.</p><br>
<p>Following Sauntry&#39;s death, the house and recreation hall were divided into separate properties. In 1920 the recreation hall was converted into a three-unit apartment by its new owner, who had the pool and bowling alley removed and the ceilings lowered. In 1999 new owners began restoring the hall while making it functional as a single-family home. Over the course of a decade they restored the ballroom and foyer to their original decor, complemented with appropriately exotic furniture. The main house was also purchased by new owners in 1999, who made their own restorations and opened the property as a bed and breakfast.</p><br>
<p>The Khazir River  is a river of northern Iraq, a tributary of the Great Zab river, joining its right bank.</p><br>
<h2>Geomorphology</h2><br>
<p>The area around the Khazir River is geologically active and crosses three anticlines from the north to the south and this has greatly affected the course of the river. The river has a catchment of 2,900 km. The net yearly recharge rate of the valley water table is 111.6 mm/year and the region is considered to be fertile.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>At a site called M&#39;lefaat evidence has been found of a small village of hunter-gatherers dating to the 10th millennium BC that was contemporary with the Pre-Pottery Neolithic A in the Levant.</p><br>
<p>Latter the river was part of an irrigation area that supported the Assyrian city of Nimrud.</p><br>
<p>Known to the Hellenistic Greeks as the Boumelus River the river was site of a battle between Alexander the Great and Darius of Persia.</p><br>
<p>In August 686 AD, the river was a site of a battle between the armies of Ibrahim ibn al-Ashtar and Ubayd Allah ibn Ziyad, during the revolt of Mukhtar al-Thaqafi. On 25 January 750, the Battle of the Zab was fought nearby.</p><br>
<p>In 2014, following bombing by United States planes, ISIL forces retreated back to the Khazir River, where ISIL destroyed bridges built by the Americans 10 years prior.</p><br>
<p>Pumiri is a 4,862 m volcano in the Andes that rises 1,062 m above the surrounding terrain. The volcano is located in the Oruro Department, Sabaya Province, northwest of the Salar de Coipasa.</p><br>
<p>The volcano is formed from two volcanic cones. The younger of which may be of Holocene age and is constructed in the middle of a caldera marked by a semilunar shape. Thanks to heavy erosion, lavas and eruption products are mostly found in peripheral parts of the edifice, while in the central area a deep-grounded crystalline core is exposed. A breach 3.5 km wide and 5.5 km long with an azimuth of 139° lies in the volcano, whose summit has a maximum slope of 25°. The volcano forms a lineament with Saxani and Isluga.</p><br>
<p>The creeks named Qhamiña (Camiña) and on the western side Waywasi (Guayhuase) originate on the volcano. Sulfur deposits on the volcano were exploited by indigenous people.</p><br>
<p>The LeRoy F. Pike Memorial Building is the town hall of Cornish, Maine. It is located at 17 Maple Street . It was built in 1925-26 to a design by John Calvin Stevens and John Howard Stevens, with funds willed to the town by the widow of LeRoy F. Pike, a local businessman and politician. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2007.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Pike Memorial Building is located in the main village of Cornish, a rural town in northern York County, Maine. It is set on the north side of Maple Street, the major east-west route through the village, just west of its central area. It is set back from the road, with a grassy front yard that has a concrete walk leading to a flight of low steps providing access to the building. It is a two-story wood frame structure, set on a high concrete foundation, with a high-pitched hip roof. The central portion of the front (south-facing) facade is demarcated by a gable in the roof, and four pilasters, two on either side of the double-door entrance. Between each pair of pilasters are narrow windows on the first and second level, and there is a three-part window above the entrance. Sash windows flank this entrance section on either side, with wooden panels separating the windows on the first and second floors. The building houses town offices and a large auditorium space.</p><br>
<p>LeRoy F. Pike was a Cornish native, lumberman, and local politician who served for many years in a variety of civic roles, including as town selectman, moderator, and constable. He died in 1915, and his widow, who died in 1922, willed to the town about $20,000 for the construction of a municipal building. The town retained Portland architect John Calvin Stevens and his son John Howard Stevens to design this Colonial Revival structure, which was completed in 1926. The building, in addition to housing town offices, has been used since then for municipal elections, and its auditorium has been used for all types of civic and private events.</p><br>
<p>Finnøy is an island in Finnøy municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The 25 km&sup2; island is one of the largest in the island municipality. The administrative centre, Judaberg, is located on the eastern shore of the island. The island is located on the southern side of the Boknafjorden, about 20 km northeast of the city of Stavanger. The village of Hesby, on the western coast, is a historical seat of power dating back to the Middle Ages. Hesby is also the site of Hesby Church which dates back to around the year 1100.</p><br>
<p>Finnøy island is connected to the mainland by a series of bridges and undersea tunnels. Finnøy Tunnel connects Finnøy to the nearby island of Rennesøy, and to the nearby island of Talgje. Finnøy also has regular ferry connections to most of the islands which surround it such as Ombo, Sjernarøyane, Halsnøya, and Fogn.</p><br>
<p>Mosterøy or Mosterøya is an island in Rennesøy municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The 12 km&sup2; island lies just southwest of the island of Rennesøy. The smaller islands of Sokn, Bru, and Åmøy lie to the south of Mosterøy and the islands of Klosterøy and Fjøløy lie to the west of Mosterøy. All of these islands are connected together and to the mainland city of Stavanger by a series of undersea tunnels and bridges. The Mastrafjord Tunnel connects Mosterøy to the island of Rennesøy and the Askjesund Bridge connects Mosterøy to the island of Sokn. Both the tunnel and bridge are part of the European route E39 highway.</p><br>
<p>The island of Mosterøy has been part of Rennesøy municipality for a long time, but in 1884 it became a part of the new municipality of Mosterøy which encompassed the island plus several surrounding islands. This independent municipality existed until 1965 when it was merged back into Rennesøy municipality.</p><br>
<p>Mosterøy is a well-cultivated island, with significant livestock and horticulture. The highest point is the 154 m tall mountain Mastravarden, located on the west side of Mosterøy. There are residential areas all over the island, but especially in the east.</p><br>
<p>Rennesøy is an island in Rennesøy municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The 40.7 km&sup2; island lies on the south side of the Boknafjorden, surrounded by several other islands. The islands of Mosterøy, Klosterøy, and Åmøy lie to the south and Finnøy and Talgje lie to the northeast. The villages of Vikevåg and Sørbø are both located on the island. Vikevåg is the administrative centre of the municipality. The Hausken Church is located in Vikevåg and the 900-year old Sørbø Church is located in Sørbø.</p><br>
<p>Since 1992, the island is connected to the mainland city of Stavanger by a series of bridges and tunnels that are part of the European route E39 highway: the Mastrafjord Tunnel, the Askjesund Bridge, and the Byfjord Tunnel. The island of Rennesøy is also connected to the islands of Finnøy and Talgje to the northeast by the Finnøy Tunnel.</p><br>
<p>Rennesøy has a steep mountainous area in the southeast, with the 234 m tall mountain Hodnenuten being the highest point on the mountain. The western part of the island is relatively flat and well cultivated.</p><br>
<p>Kvitsøy or Kvitsøya is the main island in Kvitsøy municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The 2.3 km&sup2; island is one of 167 islands and skerries that make up the municipality. The island is home to most of the municipal residents, as well as the majority of the municipality&#39;s land area. The main population centre on the island is the village of Ydstebøhamn on the southern coast. The Kvitsøy Church and Kvitsøy Lighthouse are both located on the island.</p><br>
<p>The island is only accessible by boat. The village of Ydstebøhamn has a ferry quay which receives regular ferries from the town of Skudeneshavn on the island of Karmøy across the Boknafjorden to the north, and to the village of Mekjarvik in Randaberg municipality across the Kvitsøyfjorden on the mainland to the south. The planned Rogfast undersea tunnel will connect Kvitsøy to the mainland to the north and south as part of the government&#39;s goal of providing a ferry-free European route E39 highway along the west coast of Norway.</p><br>
<p>The Holzstöcke is an elongated, densely forested, mountain range running from north to south in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. It is up to about and covers and area of 381.9 square kilometres. It is a large, terraced landscape that is part of the Iller-Lech Plateau in the Alpine Foreland of south Germany. It lies southwest of the city of Ulm in the counties of Alb-Donau-Kreis and Biberach in Upper Swabia and rises above the valley floors by about 75 metres.</p><br>

<p>In the southern part of the Holzstöcke near Aitrach the hills gradually rise from heights of around in the north near Illerkirchberg up to the 700 metre contour line in the south where there is an area of unnamed mountains and hills.</p><br>

<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>The Longstone is located about 3.5 km (2 mi) southeast of Naas, and about 600 m north of Punchestown Racecourse, in a field just off the Craddockstown road.</p><br>
<h2>History and archaeology</h2><br>
<p>The nearby Longstone at Forenaghts Great also had a trapezoidal cist which contained cremated human remains, pottery, and a fragment of a wristguard, a typical Beaker find. This suggests the Forenaghts Great Stone was erected in the period 2450–1900 BC when Beaker was in use in Ireland. The Punchestown Longstone probably dates to the same time. In 1981 a Bronze Age cist burial containing the cremated remains of four people were found 700 m (800 yd) east of the Longstone.</p><br>
<p>The stone (and several others nearby) are mentioned in Gerald of Wales&#39; 1188 Topographia Hibernica:</p><br>
<p>The stone is made of local granite and is almost 7 metres high, weighing over 9 tonnes. It fell over in 1931 and was reerected.</p><br>
<p>Bergeggi is an island which lies in the Ligurian Sea off the coast near the village of Bergeggi in the Province of Savona, Liguria, Italy.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>The island is around 8 hectares and its highest point is at 53 m.</p><br>
<p>Punta Predani, a promontory on the mainland, is just a few hundreds metres from the island.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The island bears evidences of a proto-historical Ligures&#39; settlement. On its summit stands a watch tower and remains of a 4th-century church devoted to St. Eugenius.</p><br>
<p>In 992 the bishop of Savona established a monastery on the island, also devoted to the saint, which was later donated to Lérins Abbeys monks. The monasterys ruins are still visible on the island.</p><br>
<h2>Nature conservation</h2><br>
<p>The island with its surrounding marine area is protected as Riserva naturale regionale di Bergeggi, established in 1985 by the Legge Regionale Liguria n. 10 - Istituzione della riserva naturale regionale di Bergeggi. It is also included in a SIC (Site of Community Importance) called Isola Bergeggi - Punta Predani (code IT1323202).</p><br>
<p>Among many interesting species living in the maquis shrubland covering most of the small island there are Campanula sabatia and Euphorbia dendroides.</p><br>

<p>Shimao is a Neolithic site in Shenmu County, Shaanxi, China. The site in located in the northern part of the Loess Plateau, on the southern edge of the Ordos Desert. It is dated to around 2000 BC, near the end of the Longshan period, and is the largest known walled site of that period in China, at 400 ha.</p><br>
<p>The city was surrounded by inner and outer stone walls, in contrast to the rammed earth walls typical of Longshan sites in the Central Plain and Shandong. The walls were 2.5 meters thick on average, with perimeters of approximately 4200 m and 5700 m respectively, and feature gates, turrets and watch towers. The inner city contained a stone-walled platform, interpreted as a palatial complex, and densely packed residential zones, cemeteries and craft workshops. Unusual features include jade embedded in the city walls, possibly to provide spiritual protection, and paintings of geometrical patterns on the inner walls. Many human skulls were found under the city gate, suggesting ritual sacrifices during construction.</p><br>
<p>Golladay Hall is a historic mansion in Grenada, Mississippi, USA. It was built in the 1850s on a Southern plantation for the Golladay family, members of the Southern aristocracy from Tennessee who owned plantations and invested in railroads. The mansion was used by Jefferson Davis, the President of the Confederate States of America, during the American Civil War. In 1932, a Golladay heiress was murdered inside the house. The mansion was restored in the 1950s.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>The mansion is located at 501 Margin Street in Grenada, Grenada County, Mississippi, USA. It is near the Yalobusha River.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>The mansion was built in the 1850s. It was designed in the Greek Revival architectural style by architect John Moore. It was surrounded by 1550 acres of cotton and corn. The plantation had an overseer and African slaves. There was also an apple orchard and a vegetable garden.</p><br>
<p>The original owner was George S. Golladay, a planter from Lebanon, Tennessee who served on the Board of Directors of the Mississippi Central Railroad, and his wife Martha. The Golladays entertained prominent members of the Southern aristocracy such as James K. Polk, who served as the 11th President of the United States from 1845 to 1849, and Jefferson Davis, who served as the President of the Confederate States of America from 1862 to 1865. During the Civil War, the mansion remained in the Golladay family. President Davis used it as his headquarters. Meanwhile, Sam Golladay gunned down a Union officer, who had deserted the army, when the soldier approached the house. This resulted in the only casualty to happen in Grenada.</p><br>
<p>After the war, it was inherited by their daughter, Davidella, and her husband, George Lake, a dry goods merchant.</p><br>
<p>The mansion was inherited by Golladay&#39;s grandson, Golladay Lake. However, he sold it to Junius Townes and his wife, Adelaide, in 1954. The couple restored it. It was later purchased by the Bondurant family, followed by the King family.</p><br>
<h2>Architectural significance</h2><br>
<p>As a contributing property on the Margin St. Historic District, it has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since April 7, 1988.</p><br>

<p>The Montgomery Block was San Francisco&#39;s first fireproof and earthquake resistant building, which came to be known as a Bohemian centre from the late 19th to the middle of the 20th century. It was located at 628 Montgomery Street, on the southeast corner of its intersection with Washington Street, today the location of the Transamerica Pyramid.</p><br>
<p>The four-story building was erected in 1853 by Henry Wager Halleck, later general in chief of the Union Army in the Civil War, in the "Barbary Coast" red-light district. Also known as the Monkey Block, it used to house many well-known lawyers, financiers, writers, actors, and artists. It also hosted many illustrious visitors, among them Jack London, George Sterling, Lola Montez, Lotta Crabtree, Gelett Burgess, Maynard Dixon, Frank Norris, Ambrose Bierce, Bret Harte, the Booths, and Mark Twain. The site of Montgomery Block is now registered as a California Historical Landmark.</p><br>
<p>The four-stories Montgomery Block was the tallest building west of the Mississippi River when it was built in 1853. It was designed by architect G.P. Cummings. San Franciscans called it "Halleck&#39;s Folly" because it was built on a raft of redwood logs.</p><br>
<p>On May 14, 1856, the editor of the Daily Evening Bulletin, James King of William, died in the Montgomery Block, having been shot by James P. Casey, a city supervisor who felt slighted by King&#39;s anti-corruption crusading journalism.</p><br>
<p>The building survived the 1906 earthquake and fire.</p><br>
<p>The Montgomery Block was demolished in 1959, even though a preservation movement had begun to emerge in San Francisco. It was replaced by a parking lot and later, the Transamerica Pyramid.</p><br>
<p>The building is remembered for its historic importance as a bohemian center of the city. At his inauguration as Poet Laureate of San Francisco in 1998, Lawrence Ferlinghetti mentioned "the classic old Montgomery Block building, the most famous literary and artistic structure in the West".</p><br>
<p>Mud Bay is the southernmost reach of Puget Sound, at Eld Inlet just outside the city limits of Olympia, Washington. The name Eld Inlet was officially bestowed after a member of the U.S. Navy&#39;s Wilkes Expedition, but "Mud Bay" is a local, informal adoption.</p><br>
<p>It was once a highly productive ground for the Olympia Oyster. The first Indian Shaker Church building was constructed above the bay c. 1890, Mud Bay being the home of the founder Sam "Mud Bay Sam" Yowaluch, the first Bishop of the church (see ).</p><br>
<p>The Mud Bay Logging Company ran a railroad to the bay where they had a log dump.</p><br>
<h2>Landmarks and attractions</h2><br>
<p>A roadside attraction was placed at the bay near U.S. Highway 101 in 2002: a set of larger-than-life metal sculptures of cows and a bull created by Western Washington sculptor Gary Vig. The bull is 22 ft long and weighs 3 tons.</p><br>
<p>An interpretive sign about the landing of Peter Puget at Mud Bay was placed by the county&#39;s historical commission along Mud Bay Road. The William Cannon Footpath (or Trail) is a 4,000 ft long public-access trail built in 2002 along the bayshore in the vicinity of the log dump, in partnership with Ralph Munro, McLane Elementary School, Capital High School, NOAA, and others.</p><br>
<p>The Blue Heron Bakery was a local landmark whole-grain bakery on the edge of the bay from 1978 until 2015 when it moved about a mile east into Olympia.</p><br>

<p>The is a traditional annual, 500-meter clothing-optional race across the mud flats at low tide. It is held on the day of, and just before, The Evergreen State College&#39;s graduation procession.</p><br>
<p>The Portsmouth Company Cotton Mills Counting House is a historic industrial building at Main and Liberty Streets in South Berwick, Maine. Built in 1832, it is the only surviving element of the Portsmouth Company Cotton Mill, one of several textile mills operating in South Berwick in the 19th century. It is now home to the Old Berwick Historical Society, which operates it as the Counting House Museum. The building was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1975.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Portsmouth Company Counting House is set at the southern corner of Liberty Street and Main Street (Maine State Route 4), on the eastern bank of the Salmon Falls River. It is a 2-1/2 story brick structure, set on a granite foundation and topped by a steeply-pitched gabled roof. The gable ends are fully pedimented, with a recessed triangular panel in which a three-part rectangular window is set. The building corners are pilastered, with an entablature encircling the building below the roof. The south-facing main facade is five bays wide, with the bays articulated by brick pilasters. The entrance is in the center bay, providing access to three rooms on the first floor and a large open space on the second. The interior has well-preserved Greek Revival woodwork.</p><br>
<p>The Portsmouth Company Mill was established in 1832, and operated for many years under the control of the Portsmouth, New Hampshire-based Hale family. Although this building is traditionally given a construction date of 1832, architectural evidence suggests that it may have been built about 1850. The mill was one of several operating on the river in the South Berwick area; this is the only building of the company to survive. It is now owned by the Old Berwick Historical Society, which uses it as a museum and meeting space.</p><br>
<p>The Horner House is a historic house at 2 Merrivale Street in Beverly Shores, Indiana. It is an excellent example of the mid-twentieth century architectural movement known as the International Style, interpreted by architects like Marcel Breuer, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, Walter Gropius and Philip Johnson for buildings constructed in America following World War II. It is the work of a master artist of the second generation to be influenced by this school, the Swiss architect and designer, Otto Kolb.</p><br>
<p>The Horner House is designed into the landscape and reflects a movement toward increased ecological and environmental awareness in the second half of the twentieth century. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1996.</p><br>
<h2>Exterior</h2><br>
<p>The overall design of the house is straightforward: glass, redwood and pine lumber, transits with some aluminum and brass flashing. The roofs are flat; built-up with paper, tar, and gravel and in some cases, on the terraces, the addition of pine duck boards. The main house is a 24 by rectangle. The first floor has a one-story living room and screened porch extended from the two-story portion. The rest of the main floor includes a kitchen, bathroom and small study or guest room. The second floor has a bathroom, a large bedroom and a second bedroom/studio.</p><br>
<p>The north and south walls of the one-story living room are wood framed 4 x columns. The columns are carried beneath the floor line to rest on concrete block foundation walls. 2 x floor joists on 16 in centers carry the rough floor.</p><br>
<p>The full-height exterior bay walls are of plate glass. The glass was shipped from Pittsburgh, on special order, by rail and delivered to the contractor at the site for erection. One of the panels, on the screen porch or south side of the living room wall, is capable of sliding open to a full door of 8 x, by means of a continuous steel slide and steel barn door hangers.</p><br>
<p>As stated above, the exterior materials used in the Horner House include naturally bleached heart redwood, bevelled joint cladding, always used vertically, and plate glass. The two-story core of the main house contains manufactured casement windows, transite spandrels and heads with redwood corners and facias. The doors are solid lumber core, stained and varnished.</p><br>
<p>The screened porch is constructed of four built-up columns, suspended from the cantilevered ceiling joists. The floors are pine varnished. The copper screen has been attached with copper-headed nails to the uprights in 36" horizontal bands and then hand-sewn with copper wire at the selvage edges to form a floor-to ceiling screen "wall", in four bays, along its 32 ft length. The screens presently in place on the porch are original.</p><br>
<p>The basement lies beneath the two-story core portion of the main house. It has no exterior openings and contains a gas furnace, a hot water heater and several appliances.</p><br>
<h2>Interior</h2><br>
<p>The compact, efficient kitchen utilizes white steel cabinets with grey sliding doors and clean white formica counter tops. All are original. An obscure glass pass-through serves both the living room and the screened porch.</p><br>
<p>The interior of the main house is remarkable in that a great deal of ingenuity was employed in the utilization of space, in the design of cabinets, the efficient arrangement of utilities and furniture, even in the location of permanent lighting fixtures. The integrity of the interior is extremely high, with only slight changes having taken place since its construction. For example, an interior ventilation system, based on narrow, below-window hinged wooden panels, has been permanently closed and is rarely used today, but a workable transom survives over the front door and the south plate glass windows. The former are the only non-operable features in the house.</p><br>
<h2>Guest House</h2><br>
<p>The other two structures, which comprise the residence, are detailed similarly to the main building, but they do not include any large paned (floor to ceiling) glass windows. The two story Guest House, 18 x was originally designed as a one-room workshop. In 1965, a second story was added. It is quite sensitive to the architect f s design and maintains the footprint of the original plan. On the roof of the canopy, which connects the main house with the garage and the guest house (former workshop), a lightweight screened terrace was added. In addition, a timber frame was constructed on the north elevation of the guesthouse to provide a screened patio and outdoor shower.</p><br>

<p>The Frederick Bartlett Real Estate sales and administration building, also called the Bartlett Real Estate Office, was built in 1927 at 500 S. Broadway, Beverly Shores, Porter County, Indiana. It is Mediterranean Revival style. Bartlett also chose this style for the houses in his new development of Beverly Shores. Since 1946, it has served as the Beverly Shores Administration Building, with the clerk-treasurers office, a public and town council meeting room, and the town marshals office.</p><br>
<p>The town is a small community at the southernmost tip of Lake Michigan, 40 mi southeast of Chicago, Illinois. About 4,000 years ago, the dunes formed as a result of the formation of large bays, which silted up. In Beverly Shores, roads had to be graded through and over the dunes, and some areas were leveled off for development. The town is now an island of private homes surrounded by the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, a federal park administered by the National Park Service. Across Broadway is the original Beverly Shores South Shore Railroad Station. The station was the first point of contact for prospective clients of Bartlett&#39;s, and it presented a unified appearance to the development to clients, with its stuccoed Mediterranean Revival exterior.</p><br>
<h2>Exterior</h2><br>
<p>The Bartlett building is a one story, masonry building with tan brick walls. The main entrance features an arch, which is the base to a two-story tower. It has a poured concrete foundation. The tower has iron railings and green wood trim. The main section has a flat roof with a rubber membrane, masked by a hipped skirt roofs on the parapets. This skirt roof is covered in green terra-cotta tile. The tower has a pyramidal hip roof covered in same green tile. It faces east onton Broadway, the main north-south road in the town. The Southshore, Chicago and South Bend Railway station is, leading from the interurban station to the Lake Michigan beach. It is a tripartite composition of two large storefront bays, flanking the arched central entrance tower. The sand-colored brick walls were laid with a variety of patterns: there is a soldier course around the foundation and above all storefront openings, and header courses for storefront sills (photo 3). At the front corners of the building, two large square piers extend into the parapet and interrupt the tiled roofs. These have slightly recessed vertical panels with basketweave brickwork – three vertical bricks alternating with three horizontal. The large, two pane plate glass storefront windows themselves were installed in 1995, to replicate the original configuration.</p><br>

<h2>Interior</h2><br>
<p>Originally, the interior was divided into two functions: a front sales office room consisting of one open space, and a rear section with living quarters for a salesman / caretaker. The two front doors led one into the sales room. There was a line of load bearing posts running down the center of the room. In the 1980s, the city had contractors divide the room, using the posts to define two separate rooms, yet the posts remain visible in the drywall. A door connects the two rooms toward the west end. The north side of the front area is now the office of the clerk-treasurer. A small area to the west of the north room was further divided off to provide a bathroom and storage space. The south side room remains largely open and is used as the meeting room for the town council (photo 6). The wood floors throughout are now covered in carpeting, however, the pressed metal ceiling remains exposed in all but the marshal&#39;s office. Schoolhouse style lights are not original but are similar to those once used in the building. There are also contemporary ceiling fans in each room.</p><br>
<p>In the meeting room, an original arched vertical car-sided door remains on back wall. It led to a hallway of the caretakers quarters. The marshals office occupies most of the former caretakers office now. Though ceilings were lowered with a suspended tile system in the marshals office, the original Murphy bed from the building&#39;s caretaker days remains in place.</p><br>

<p>Lake Oron  is a lake located in eastern Irkutsk Oblast , Russia, in the Kodar Mountains. The lake is connected to the Vitim River via a short waterway.</p><br>
<h2>Hydrography</h2><br>
<p>Lake Oron sits at an elevation of 353 m above sea level. It is 24 km long and 6.5 km wide, with a surface area of 51.3 km&sup2; and a maximum depth of 184 m. The western and eastern slopes of the lake are practically vertical, and 85 percent of the lake is of a depth greater than 100 m, while the northern part of the lake that connects to the Vitim River is more shallow, with depths up to 18 m. The presence of deep faults beneath Lake Oron strongly suggest that the lake has a tectonic origin, with a hydrological regime determined more by changes in precipitation than by glacier meltwater.</p><br>
<p>The Warsaw Historic District is a historic district encompassing the inner core of Warsaw, Hancock County, Illinois. As the city has lost many of its outlying residential areas, the district includes nearly all of the towns developed area, which has been relatively unchanged since the late 19th century. The city was settled in the 1810s and 1820s as a military outpost on the Mississippi River and was platted in 1833. As an economically significant port city, the town grew steadily until the 1870s, reaching a peak population of 5,000 to 15,000 people; it has declined since and now has less than 2,000 residents. The towns historic buildings include a commercial core along Main Street and low-density residential areas in the rest of the district. The Greek Revival, Federal, and Italianate architectural styles are all well-represented among the district&#39;s buildings.</p><br>
<p>The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on December 16, 1977.</p><br>
<p>The Batcher Opera House Block is a historic 1907 building located in downtown Staples, Minnesota, United States. It contained commercial business on the first floor and an opera house on the 2nd floor. The opera house was an entertainment venue that featured live theater productions from 1907 until the 1920s. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Started in 1905 and completed in 1907, the building was originally intended to house commercial businesses such as grocery, dry goods, and hardware. Charles Edward Batcher, the owner and probable architect, halted construction for more than a year until it was clear that another new building in town, raised by the local Odd Fellows, would not include an opera house. Batcher then decided to include an opera house and restarted construction in the spring of 1907, adding a third story to the design. Yet another new building in town, by Thomas J. Sharkey, did add an opera house, which opened as Sharkeys Opera House at about the same time as the Batcher Opera House opened. Batchers Opera House was the more influential of the two, and though Sharkey&#39;s continued as an entertainment venue, it was lost to fire in 1918.</p><br>
<p>Traveling theatrical groups had fallen out of favor by the early 1920s as motion pictures became popular and theatrical shows became more expensive. Though Batcher added a movie projector to the balcony of the opera house in the late 1910s, movies ended there in the early 1930s. The opera house was used as a roller skating rink in the 1930s and 1940s, and was used for storage thereafter.</p><br>
<p>The building is approximately 90 feet by 100 feet. The opera house occupied the second floor, 50 feet by 100 feet with a 24 x 50 stage and a 24 x 24 balcony.</p><br>
<p>The Kodar Mountains  are a mountain range in the Transbaikal region of Siberia, Russia. The name Kodar is derived from "khada", an Evenki word for rock.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>The Kodar Mountains are part of the Stanovoy Highlands, which range from the northern tip of Lake Baikal to the Olyokma River. Lying within the Baikal Rift Zone, the area is prone to earthquakes. The range is bounded by the Vitim and Chara rivers, both tributaries of the Lena. The Apsat River flows through the range.</p><br>
<p>The topography consists of narrow, deep valleys that descend over 1,000 m from the surrounding terrain. The Kodar range is the highest in the Transbaikal region with its tallest peak, Pik BAM (Baikal Amur Magistral), rising 3,072 m. According to a 2013 study, the range contains 34 glaciers. With the exception of some tropical glaciers, they are the most isolated glaciers the world, over 1,200 km away from any other glacier.</p><br>
<p>The area experiences a subarctic climate, with the Siberian High resulting in very low temperatures and precipitation from November to March. Meteorological measurements taken in 1960s reported between 850 and of precipitation a year at an elevation of 2,500 m, with 50 percent falling as snow. Although snow can occur any time of year, 80 percent falls in late Spring and early Autumn.</p><br>
<p>Cambre House and Farm is a historic farmstead located southwest of Niota, Hancock County, Illinois, United States. The farmhouse was built in 1867 by Adolphe Cambre, a French immigrant and member of Nauvoos short-lived Icarian community. A carpenter by trade, Cambre designed several of the communitys buildings while the Icarians occupied Nauvoo in the 1850s. While many of the Icarians resettled in Corning, Iowa after their Nauvoo colony failed, Cambre remained in Hancock County, eventually building the Creole-inspired house for his family. The house is similar in design to the Icarians&#39; other buildings and is the only surviving Icarian-designed building in Hancock County.</p><br>
<p>The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 13, 1984.</p><br>
<p>The Großer Finsterberg is a mountain, in the Thuringian Forest not far from the villages of Stützerbach and Schmiedefeld am Rennsteig. It is the third highest peak in the German state of Thuringia.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The volcanic origin of the Großer Finsterberg may be seen clearly from the conical shape of its summit, which tilts markedly towards the west.</p><br>
<p>Apart from the summit plateau, the mountain is completely covered by a nearly natural cotton and reed grass spruce woodland; in most places there is no shrub layer. On the plateau a special mountain pasture vegetation has formed with baldmoney, veronica and St. John&#39;s wort.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<h3>Subpeaks and boundaries</h3><br>
<p>One kilometre away to the north-northeast is its smaller brother, the Kleiner Finsterberg or Finsterberger Köpfchen.</p><br>
<p>Two less spectacular eastern subpeaks, 2 to 3 kilometres distant both bear the name Rosenkopf ( and ). To the west, northwest and north the Finsterberg is bounded by the Freibach and, to the southeast, by the Taubach, both headstreams of the Ilm.</p><br>
<h3>Neighbouring peaks</h3><br>
<p>Two kilometres to the southwest and separated by the Rennsteig (ca. 800 metres away), is the Großer Eisenberg. To the northwest, four to five kilometres away, are the two main summits of the range, the Schneekopf and the Großer Beerberg, both of which are higher than the Finsterberg.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>Since the middle of the 18th century at the Mordfleck (1.5 kilometres east of the summit) and at the Blauer Stein (1 km away to the northwest), stone coal has been mined.</p><br>
<p>Towards the end of the Second World War, soldiers&#39; graves were dug on the mountainside. From 1954 to 1990 the summit of the Großer Finsterberg was used by the Soviet Union for military purposes and was thus out of bounds to the public.</p><br>
<h2>View</h2><br>
<p>Since 1999, there has been a wooden observation platform at the summit of the Großer Finsterberg with a view of the Kickelhahn, the Ringberg on the Adlersberg near Suhl, the Dolmar near Meiningen and the only two mountains in Thuringia that are higher – the Großer Beerberg and the Schneekopf, below whose summits the Schmücke may also be seen. On the east side there is a small hut with another observation point.</p><br>
<p>The Cobe Estate, also known as Cariad, is a historic summer mansion house on Bluff Road in Northport, Maine. Overlooking Penobscot Bay, this 1910s mansion is one of the largest Colonial Revival houses in the state. It was built in 1912-14 for a Chicago lawyer, and was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1983.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Cobe Estate is in northern Northport, on the west side of Bluff Road just south of the Bayside neighborhood and the Northport Golf Club. The house is a large 2-1/2 story structure, whose main section and side wings are finished in brick. Its long facades face the northeast and southwest, and are sheltered by two-story colonnades of columns, round on one side and square on the other. The southwest colonnade is topped by a Colonial Revival railing, protecting a balcony space accessible from the attic level. Two-story wings extends the house&#39;s length, with one end also sporting sunporches.</p><br>
<p>The interior of the house is lavishly appointed, with marble and carved woodwork widely used. The central hall has flanking wooden staircases rising to a common landing. Walls feature both wooden and plaster paneling, with the music room particularly decorated with designs incorporating musical instruments. All of the rooms are Colonial Revival in style except for the library, which has Gothic features.</p><br>
<p>The house was designed by Marshall & Fox, a leading Chicago architectural firm, and was built in 1912-14 for Ira M. Cobe, a Chicago lawyer and investment banker. Cobe&#39;s wife Anne was from Belfast, Maine, and the house was built in Northport so that she could be nearer her family in the summertime.</p><br>
<p>The J.L. Prescott House is a historic house on High Street in North Berwick, Maine. Built in 1865 for a prominent local businessman, it is one of the largest and most elaborate Italianate houses in southern Maine. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1985. It has been converted into a multiunit apartment house.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>The Prescott House is located on the east side of High Street (Maine State Route 4), opposite the Mary R. Hurd School north of the village center of North Berwick. It is a rambling wood frame structure, with a large 2-1/2 story main block connected to a large carriage barn via a telescoping series of ells. The main block is oriented facing south, with a side gable roof and a four story tower with a mansard roof projecting slightly from the center bay. Window bays with bracketed roofs project from the south and west sides, and most windows are paired narrow sash topped by cornices. Both the main block and carriage barn have wooden corner quoining. Porches feature chamfered posts, and bracketed roofs with pendants.</p><br>
<p>The house was built in 1865 for J.L. Prescott, owner of the Prescott Stove Polish Company, which was then located in North Berwick. The house is one of only two 19th-century houses of serious architectural merit; the other is the Queen Anne Mary R. Hurd House. Although Prescott was involved in state politics, he moved (along with his company) to New Jersey in the 1880s. After declining in condition during the 20th century, the house has been restored to house several apartments.</p><br>
<p>The La Harpe City Hall, located at 207 East Main Street, is the historic city hall serving La Harpe, Illinois. Built in 1894, it housed City Council meetings as well as the town&#39;s police and fire departments. As the city had undergone significant commercial growth in the late 19th century, the city council was busy discussing and voting on infrastructure to support a larger city. In addition to giving itself a permanent meeting place in the city hall, the council approved a water works in response to a major fire in 1893 and included a jail in the city hall to aid the police department. After settling in its new city hall, the city council continued to develop the community by funding an electric power plant, supporting a public library, and aiding in efforts to pave Main Street.</p><br>
<p>The city hall was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 14, 1991.</p><br>
<p>The La Harpe Historic District is a historic district located in downtown La Harpe, Illinois. The district, which is primarily commercial, includes the 100 East and 100 West blocks of Main Street and the 100 South block of Center Street. While La Harpe was settled in the 1830s, most of its development took place after railroad service came to the city in 1865. The city became a regional service center for the surrounding agricultural areas, and the commercial buildings constructed during this late 19th century economic boom form the core of the district. The buildings are primarily red brick commercial structures, some of which have decorative storefronts; the three outliers are a frame house, an Italianate commercial building, and a Mission Revival gas station from the early twentieth century. La Harpe&#39;s economy and population stabilized after 1900, and the district has remained mostly unchanged since.</p><br>
<p>The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on April 30, 1987.</p><br>
<p>Rathcoffey Castle is a 15th century castle found in Rathcoffey, County Kildare, Ireland. It is a National Monument.</p><br>
<h2>Location</h2><br>
<p>Rathcoffey Castle is located in a field east of Rathcoffey village. It lies 4.3 km (2.7 mi) north-northwest of Straffan.</p><br>
<h2>Building</h2><br>
<p>The main surviving free-standing structure is the two-storey gatehouse leading to the enclosure in which the castle stood. It has a mullioned window in the east wall. It possibly dates to the 15th century.</p><br>
<h2>History</h2><br>
<p>John Wogan was granted the Manor of Rathcoffey in 1317 and his descendants built a castle there. The Wogans were of Cambro-Norman extraction; the name is believed to derive from the Welsh Gwgan. In 1417 Rathcoffey Castle was documented in a Wogan dower.</p><br>
<p>In 1453 an army led by Richard Wogan attacked and captured Rathcoffey Castle from his cousin Anne Eustace (née Wogan). Anne belonged to a more senior line, but Richard was the senior male heir. The result of this conflict left Richard in control of Rathcoffey and Anne and her successors in the Eustace family in possession of the Wogan lands of Clongowes Wood.</p><br>
<p>In 1580 William Wogan, joined the Second Desmond Rebellion in support of the Roman Catholic cause. He was executed the following year and all his lands forfeited. The family regained Rathcoffey soon afterwards.</p><br>
<p>During the Wars of the Three Kingdoms (1640s) the Wogans sided with Parliament, and Colonel Moncks army marched on Rathcoffey castle, laying siege to it. With the castles fall in 1642 many civilians were massacred; their bones were found in a forest in the 19th century. The castle&#39;s garrison were executed in Dublin.</p><br>
<p>In the 18th century the castle belonged to Richard Wogan Talbot. Archibald Hamilton Rowan (later a leading United Irishman) bought it from him in 1785 and built a new mansion on the site of the Castle incorporating the Wogan dwelling in this structure.</p><br>
<p>It later passed between numerous owners before coming into the possession of the Society of Jesus (Jesuits) and then being sold to a local farmer in the 1970s.</p><br>
<p>The Moses King Brick and Tile Works is a historic brickworks located at 738 North Coal Street in Colchester, Illinois. The complex includes Kings Folk Victorian home, four of the original seven beehive kilns, the factory building and its drying tunnels, two exhaust stacks, and various outbuildings. Moses King established the brickworks on his own land, which held one of the countys richest clay deposits, in 1881. The brickworks was a major part of Colchesters clay industry, which developed as a way of using excess coal from the citys more prominent coal mining industry; it eventually became one of the city&#39;s main economic drivers, along with coal and the railroad. While coal and clay both declined in Colchester in the twentieth century, the brickworks survived as a producer of buff brick, ultimately becoming the last surviving brickwors in the city. It closed in the 1960s when buff brick declined in favor of colored brick, which could be more easily obtained from other sources.</p><br>
<p>The brickworks was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 8, 2001.</p><br>
<p>The Welling-Everly Horse Barn is a historic horse barn located west of USA Route 136 and northwest of Adair in rural McDonough County, Illinois. The barn was built in 1882 for Dave Welling, a wealthy livestock farmer. The Stick style barn was noted for its "artistic beauty" in Macombs daily newspaper; its architecture is typical of the eras focus on building exquisite buildings in rural settings. While the barn was originally paired with an Eastlake style farmhouse, the house burned down in the 1890s and was replaced by a Queen Anne house that has since lost its architectural integrity. Welling sold his farm to Wm. H. Smith in 1892; in 1901, it was purchased by Jonas Everly, who began farming grain on the property.</p><br>
<p>The barn was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 9, 1985.</p><br>
<p>The Lamoine Hotel is a historic hotel located at 201 North Randolph Street in Macomb, Illinois. The hotel was built in 1926-27 to be the citys first large modern hotel, a necessity for a city with a busy railroad station and a state university. Architects F.E. Berger and R.L. Kelley of Champaign designed the Classical Revival building; it is the tallest building in downtown Macomb and the most prominent Classical Revival building in the city. In addition to hosting visitors to Macomb, the hotel housed several local businesses and hosted community meetings and the Macomb Chamber of Commerce. The hotel was the citys preferred hotel and community meeting place until the 1950s, when the automobiles rise took away the railroad traffic which gave the hotel much of its business. The hotel became an apartment hotel and ultimately closed for good in the following decades; the Macomb Journal later moved into the buildings ground floor.</p><br>

<p>The William S. Bailey House is a historic house located at 100 South Campbell Street in Macomb, Illinois. The house was built in 1887 for William S. Bailey, a prominent local businessman who built several of the buildings on Macombs town square. The house has a Queen Anne style design with Eastlake details; it is one of the best-preserved Queen Anne homes in Macomb. The -story house has a hipped roof with cross gables; the gable ends are decorated with spindlework cresting. Three brick chimneys with patterned masonry provide ventilation for the houses fireplaces and kitchen stove. The front porch features a spindlework railing and decorative trim along the roof and the entry pediment.</p><br>
<p>The house was added to the National Register of Historic Places on August 28, 2012.</p><br>
<p>The Macomb Courthouse Square Historic District is a historic district located in downtown Macomb, Illinois. The district covers six full and four partial city blocks and includes 65 contributing buildings. The McDonough County Courthouse, an 1871 Second Empire building, is the centerpiece of the district. The courthouse is situated in the middle of a Harrisonburg-style courthouse square, which is flanked by two north-south streets and intersected by a single east-west street that splits around the courthouse; the layout is unusual in Illinois, though Stark County has a similar layout. The surrounding buildings are mainly commercial, though several are government buildings. Brick commercial blocks, often with Italianate or Queen Anne details, dominate the districts architectural landscape; the districts more modern buildings, which date to the first half of the twentieth century, mostly have Art Deco or Moderne styling.</p><br>
<p>The district was added to the National Register of Historic Places on May 22, 2013.</p><br>
<p>The Schneekopf near Gehlberg in the Thuringian county of Ilm-Kreis is and thus the second highest peak in the Thuringian Forest after its western neighbour, the Großer Beerberg. The Adler Saddle between them is only about 59.4 metres lower than the two summits. To the east some distance away is its subpeak, the Sachsenstein, to the south are the Teufelskreise and Fichtenkopf. The Goldlauterberg further south marks the transition to the mountain of Großer Finsterberg.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The mountain is of volcanic origin and consists of porphyry. It is known for the Schneekopf balls (Schneekopfkugel), balls of porphyry (druse) that occur here that form agate in the interior of crystals. They were formed during a volcanic eruption in the Permian. On the northern slopes of the mountain rises the Wilde Gera stream.</p><br>
<p>From the summit plateau there is a good all round view of other summits in the Thuringian Forest and the Rhön mountains, over the Thuringian Basin as far as the Ettersberg near Weimar and of the winter sports resort of Oberhof. In very good visibility, for example during winter inversion weather conditions, the view extends as far as the Brocken in the Harz Mountains, the Schneeberg and the western Ore Mountains. In addition, the Wilde Gera Viaduct (on the A 71), which has a span of 252 metres - the largest arch bridge in Germany, is also visible.</p><br>

<p>Mallett Hall is a historic former hotel building at 2782 Lee Road  in Lee, Maine. Built in 1889, it is a rare surviving example of a once-common form, a country hotel in rural Maine. Now owned by the local historical society, it serves as a community function space. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.</p><br>
<h2>Description and history</h2><br>
<p>Mallett Hall is located on the north side of Lee Road, just east of Lee Academy near the center of the rural community. It is a long rectangular wood frame structure, two stories in height, with a hip roof and granite foundation. The south-facing front facade is asymmetrical, with a picture window and sash window to the right of the off-center door, and two sash windows to its left. There are six sash windows on the second level, above the single-story porch that wraps around to the right (east) side. The east facade has thirteen windows on the first floor and eleven on the second. The first floor housed public and office spaces of the hotel, including a dining room, kitchen, and an open central hall. The upstairs originally house four bedrooms and a large dance hall, the latter converted to dormitory-style bedrooms in the 1930s.</p><br>
<p>Mallett Hall was built in 1889 by James Mallett as a small hotel serving travelers along what is now Route 6, then the main road between Lincoln, Maine (the nearest railroad stop) and Fredericton, New Brunswick. The hotel was operated under various names by members of the Mallett family into the 1920s. In 1930 the building was purchased and given to Lee Academy, which converted the ballroom into dormitory space. In 1975 the building was adapted to house apartment units, and in 1993 it was transferred to the local historical society and restored.</p><br>
<p>The W.F. Reeves House is a historic house on Short Street in Marshall, Arkansas. It is a 1-1/2 story wood frame structure, with a central hip-roofed section that has a gabled entry section projecting from the right side of the front facade. A shed-roof porch extends to the left of this section and around to the side, supported by square posts on stone piers. The exterior is adorned by a few Folk Victorian details, including sunbursts in projecting gable sections, and woodwork at the corners of polygonal window bays. The house was built in 1903-04 by W.F. "Frank" Reeves, and is an architecturally distinctive interpretation of the Folk Victorian style.</p><br>
<p>The house was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.</p><br>
<p>Candy Mountain is a small mountain located just outside West Richland, Washington. Candy Mountain rises above the Tri-Cities, located between Badger Mountain to the south and Red Mountain to the north.</p><br>
<p>Candy Mountain is connected to Badger Mountain by Goose Gap. There is a primitive road leading to the top, and the remains of an old radio tower. The non-profit organization Friends of Badger Mountain, in collaboration with Benton County, raised funds and pursued grants to purchase 200 acres of land surrounding Candy Mountain to build new trails on the mountain and connect it to Badger Mountain.</p><br>
<h2>Trail</h2><br>
<p>There is a trail that hikers can use starting on the east side of the mountain, leading to the top. The 1.4 mi trail is fairly steep, but one can reach the summit in around 20 minutes. Along the climb, there are several false summits, where it appears you are approaching the peak only to find that such is not the case.</p><br>
<p>The João Lopes Bank  is a seamount situated 1 nmi northwest of the community of Anjos, on the Portuguese island of Santa Maria in the Azores.</p><br>
<h2>Geography</h2><br>
<p>This undersea geological formation consists of a rocky outcrops, an unsheltered zone at the extreme northwest of the island of Santa Maria, that is susceptible to strong currents.</p><br>
<p>The area was formed by lava flows that extend between depths of 27 m and 45 m. At the deeper areas the geology is primarily composed of basalt rock, interspersed by sand and large boulders of varying dimensions.</p><br>
<p>Due to the purity of the water, the visibility in this area extends to approximately 22 m.</p><br>
<h3>Biome</h3><br>
<p>The area is dotted with a rich biodiversity of varying aquatic species; the bank is populated sea floor and mid-oceanic schools of Azores chromis (Chromis limbata), Blacktail comber (Serranus atricauda), Guinean puffer (Sphoeroides marmoratus), Mediterranean rainbow wrasse (Coris julis), Ornate wrasse (Thalassoma pavo), Salema porgy (Sarpa salpa) and Mediterranean parrotfish (Sparisoma cretense). At 20 m depths are frequently visible Needlefish (Belonidae), o lírios, the large Atlantic goliath grouper (Epinephelus itajara), schools of Giant oceanic manta ray (Manta birostris), Dolphins and White-Tip Sharks, known in the Azores as Marracho.</p><br>
<p>The Rice Public Library is the public library of Kittery, Maine. It is located at 8 Wentworth Street  in the central Kittery Foreside village, in an architecturally distinguished Romanesque Revival building built in 1889 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1979, with a large annex just across the street at 2 Walker Street.</p><br>
<h2>Architecture and history</h2><br>
<p>The Rice Building is located on the east side of Wentworth Street, a short way north of the main entrance to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard. It is a two-story structure, built primarily out of Philadelphia brick, with granite trim. It has a hip roof, three-story tower on the right, and a main entrance set recessed under a round arch in a projecting gable section near the center of the front facade. A granite string course separates the basement from the first floor, and a band of ornamental brick separates the first and second floors.</p><br>
<p>The library was established by a bequest from Arabella Rice, whose 1867 will left funds for the establishment of a library in Kittery in honor of her father, a Kittery native. A board of trustees was formed in 1875, three years after her death, and this building was completed in 1889. It was designed by Boston architect Shepherd S. Woodcock, and is his only known surviving commission in the state. The building is also one of only two two-story Romanesque libraries in the state (the other is the Skowhegan Free Public Library).</p><br>
<p>The Ingala Valley  is an archaeological district in the area between the Tobol and Iset rivers. It is the largest one in the south of the Tyumen Oblast, and belongs to the Iset cultural and historical province. It has 177 kurgans, 55 archaeological sites of federal significance and 5 regional natural monuments.</p><br>
<p>Archaeological sites in the valley date from the Mesolithic (8th-7th millennium BC) to the Middle Ages (15th century) and include marks of the Andronovo culture and Ugric (ancient Hungarians) civilizations. Some of the artifacts are stored in the State Hermitage Museum as the; others belonged to the lost well-known private collection of Nicolaes Witsen.</p><br>
<h2>Description</h2><br>
<p>The Ingala Valley is located 75 km south of Tyumen, at the mouth of the Iset River. At this point, the borders of the Isetsky, Yalutorovsky, Zavodoukovsky and Uporovsky Districts of the Tyumen Oblast are closed. The valley was named in 1994 by the most common local toponyms translated from the Siberian Tatar language as scirpus.</p><br>
<p>The valley covers an area of about 1500 square kilometres. It was formed as a result of a merger of the river valleys of the Tobol and Iset rivers. It has the shape of a trapezoid on a map, with a vertex extending to the northeast. The north–south length is about 55 km; on the east–west axis it&#39;s from 20 to 45 km. In terms of relief it looks like a cavity, which is bounded on the north by a high terrace of the Iset River, and on the east by a terrace of the Tobol River. In the central part of the valley flow the and rivers, which are tributaries of the Iset River.</p><br>
<p>There are two ways to the valley. The southern route is from Tyumen by the highway M51 towards Kurgan. Beyond the village it crosses the Iset River and turn left in front of the village Soloboevo, then through Malyshy and Botniki to get to Krasnogorskoe, the beginning of the valley. Then you can travel the route Krasnogorskoe-Loga—Minino—Onufrieva—Upper Ingal—Niphaki—Ingalinskoe—Lykovo—Koklyagina—Surka—Tyutrina—Byzovo—; this path goes around the valley from the south-west. Then after Uporovo you may cross the Tobol River and get to Zavodoukovsk heading north through Lesnoy—Central—Michurinskiy; then you come back to Tyumen by the.</p><br>
<p>The northern route is from Tyumen to Zavodoukovsk by the highway P402. Before Zavodoukovsk you must turn right, cross the river Uk and continue to the right (westbound) towards Sungurovo. After Sungurovo you cross the Tobol River and reach Novolybaevo, and immediately enter the Ingala Valley. Continue by the route Novolybaevo—Karasye—Shilikul, and from the last enter the southern route, reaching back roads through Pushkareva to Ingalinskoe (to the west) or to Koklyagina (to the south).</p><br>
<h2>History of the study</h2><br>
<p>The first explorers of the valley were so-called, robbers of ancient graves. In 1669, the governor of the told tsar Alexei Mikhailovich that gold, silver items and utensils were extracted from "Tatar graves" near the Iset River. As a result of bugrovschiki most treasures of the Siberian kurgans are lost forever.</p><br>
<p>In 1712, a commander of Shadrinsk, prince Vasily Meshchersky, began excavations of kurgans to get gold, silver and copper items to replenish the state treasury by order of the Siberian governor prince. During the years 1715-1717 governor Gagarin sent Siberian treasures to Peter the Great four times. 250 ancient gold jewelry pieces sent by Gagarin became known as the, which is now available in the State Hermitage at the gallery of jewels called "The Scythian Gold".</p><br>
<p>Some of the treasures extracted by bugrovschiki appeared in private collections abroad. The most famous was the collection of Amsterdam mayor Nicolaes Witsen; a part of it is known only from tables drawn in the third edition of his book Noord en Oost Tartatye (1785), and the collection was lost after 1717.</p><br>
<p>The first among scientists to get acquainted with findings of the Ingala Valley was Daniel Messerschmidt, whose expedition into the Siberia Governorate took place in 1719-1727. Gerhard Müller, who visited Siberia in 1733-1743 together with the Great Northern Expedition, stated that bugrovschiki activity was finished because the kurgans had been totally robbed. Peter Pallas during the described the kurgans Tyutrinskiy, Savinovskiy and Peschaniy-I. In 1861, published information about kurgans and hill forts of the, and. In 1890, Ivan Slovtsov published a list of burial mounds and hill forts of Tobolsk Governorate, including information about the burial mounds Krasnogorskiy-I and Krasnogorskiy Borok, also the hill forts Zmeevo and Lizunovo (Krasnogorskoe). In 1893, became the first to discover traces of the Andronovo culture near Yalutorovsk.</p><br>
<p>Studies of the valley resumed in 1959 due to P. M. Kozhin. An expedition of Ural State University (V. Frolov, T. Gasheva, V. T. Yurovskaya (Kovaleva), T. G. Bushueva, B. B. Ovchinnikova) has continued since 1962. In 1970-1980, exploration was carried out by V. A. Mogilnikov from the, and also by N. P. Matveeva, and I. V. Usacheva (Zilina) from the Tyumen State University, and by A. S. Sergeev from the.</p><br>
<p>In 1994, A. V. Matveev identified natural boundaries of the valley that first allowed perceiving it as a united archaeological complex. The following year, research by the West Siberian archaeological expedition of the was begun. By Decree of the President of Russia Boris Yeltsin on February 20, 1995 No. 176, many archaeological sites of the Ingala Valley received the status of of federal importance. In 1995-2003 300 new archaeological sites were identified.</p><br>
<h2>Periodization of cultural layers</h2><br>
<p>Currently, these are 549 archaeological sites discovered in the Ingala Valley; the oldest one dates to the Middle Stone Age.</p><br>
<h3>Stone Age</h3><br>
<h4>Mesolithic</h4><br>
<p>The Mesolithic is presented in the Ingala Valley with early cultural deposits of the archaeological monument "Ostrov-II". Absence of radiocarbon dating does not allow setting an age of the finds. By analogy with other Mesolithic in the south of the Tyumen Oblast ("Katenka" and "Zvezdniy"), a chronological framework of the oldest finds in the valley was limited within 8th-7th millennium BC.</p><br>
<h4>Neolithic</h4><br>
<p>The Neolithic presents with 37 sites found during excavations of the settlement "Dvuhozernoe-I", the ritual complex "Ostrov-II", and the grave field "Old-Lybaevo-IV". 6 of these belong to the Koshkino archaeological culture, 12 to the Sosnovka-Ostrov culture, 11 to the Boborykino, 3 to the Poludenskoe and 5 don&#39;t have a reliable cultural attribution.</p><br>
<p>According to Eugene Volkov, the earliest Neolithic culture of the Ingala Valley should be considered the Koshkino (middle 6th millennium BC - late 5th millennium BC), and the Sosnovka-Ostrov (middle 5th millennium BC - 4th millennium BC) was the next. Boborykino culture (late 5th millennium BC - late 4th millennium BC) coexisted with the Koshkinskino and Sosnovka-Ostrov. Monuments of the Poludenskoe culture are few; perhaps they were functioning at a time when the surrounding area was empty.</p><br>
<h3>Copper Age</h3><br>
<p>The Chalcolithic is presented with 54 monuments, of which 28 belong to the Lybaevo culture, 12 to the Andreevskoe and 14 did not get a reliable attribution.</p><br>
<p>Early Chalcolithic (the Buzan period of the Lybaevo culture) is identified with artifacts of the grave field "Buzan-III" (3190 BC ± 60 years), and the settlements "Sazyk-IX" (3150 BC ± 60 years) and "Lipihinskoe-V". The most prominent artifact of the grave field "Buzan-III" is the remains of a wooden funerary longer than 5 m found in 1996, the oldest in Northern Eurasia. Its age is comparable to Stonehenge 1, the Protodynastic Period of Ancient Egypt, Egyptian hieroglyphics, the first cities in Mesopotamia and the late period of the Cucuteni-Trypillian culture. A replica of the ladya is situated now in the Archaeological gallery of the Yalutorovsky Ostrog.</p><br>
<p>During the first third of the 3rd millennium BC members of the Andreevskoe culture penetrated into the valley from the Tura cultural and historical province, and until the end of the 3rd millennium BC the Lybaevo and Andreevskoe cultures evolved synchronously. Eugene Volkov calls this phase the Dvuhozerny period of the Lybaevo culture (represented by artifacts of the settlements "Dvuhozernoe-I", "Lower Ingalinskoe-IIIa", "Ostrov-IIa" and "Upper Ingalsky Borok-II").</p><br>
<h3>Bronze Age</h3><br>
<p>The Bronze Age in the valley is divided into 3 stages. Early Bronze Age (late 22nd / early 21st century BC - middle 18th century BC) is represented with 7 settlements of the Tashkovo culture (a sequel of the Andreevskoe one) and 2 monuments of the Imbiryay culture.</p><br>
<p>The stage of the Andronovo antiquities is presented with 13 monuments (4 both from the Alakul and Fedorovo cultures and 5 from the Cherkaskul). Opened by Axel Heikel near Yalutorovsk in 1893, traces of the Alakuls were at first considered evidence of random attacks of Alakul squads to the north. But finds in the settlement "Uk-III" near Zavodoukovsk and in the Khripunova grave field near village Krasnogorskoe discovered at the end of the 20th century forced more serious consideration of the presence of Andronovo culture in the Ingala Valley. According to Alexander Matveev, the Alakul culture consists of the following stages: Chistolebyazhsky, Alakul (developed), Kamyshinsky (late) and Amangeldinsky (transition to the Fedorovo culture). Of these there were found in the Ingala Valley monuments of the middle (the Khripunova grave field is the most northern of the Alakul cemeteries, the settlement "Lower Ingalinskoe-III") and late (the second group of burials of the Khripunova grave field, the settlement "Uk-III") stages of dating the second quarter of the 18th - middle 16th century BC. The Fedorovo antiquities are dated from the middle 16th to late 14th century BC; the Cherkaskul ones are dated to the 13th-11th centuries BC.</p><br>
<p>The late Bronze Age in the valley is presented with 24 monuments, of which 12 belong to Pakhomovo culture (though it existed in sync with the Cherkaskul one), 7 belong to, and 5 are not identified. A chronological boundary of Barkhatovo antiquities (settlements "Schetkovo-II" and Kolovskiy) is from the last quarter of the 11th to the end of the 8th century BC. During the late Bronze Age construction of hill forts began in the Ingala Valley, the earliest of which is the Ak-Pash-I. The tallest of hill forts is the Lizunovo (Krasnogorskoe) in the Iset District; it is located on a promontory with a steep slope nearly 45 meters high. Its discovery began an opening of the Barkhatovo culture.</p><br>
<h3>Iron Age</h3><br>
<p>Transition time from the Bronze Age to the Iron one is presented in the Ingala Valley with 4 monuments of the Itkul culture (late 8th-5th century BC) and 3 monuments without sustainable cultural attribution.</p><br>
<p>There are 139 sites from the early Iron Age; among them 30 belong to the Baitovo culture, 16 belong to the Gorokhovo, 55 to the, 1 to the Kashino, and 37 do not have a strong cultural attribution. Baitovo tribes (7th-5th century BC) were successors of the Barkhatovo culture and coexisted with Itkul and Gorokhovo tribes, being destroyed by Sargats. The Gorokhovo people (originating in the 7th century BC) were not immediately dissolved by the Sargats and coexisted with them until the 3rd century BC. If the early stage of the Sargat culture (5th - early 3rd century BC) co-existed with its neighbors, then from the 2nd century BC to the 5th century AD Sargats have no rivals throughout the Middle.</p><br>
<p>Kurgans in the valley are associated with Sargats (and partly with Baitovo tribes) first of all. The number of kurgans reaches 177, a diameter of individual ones more than 60 m. Many kurgans contain highly artistic artifacts made of gold, silver, gemstones and numerous decorations made in workshops of Ancient Egypt, slave-owning states of the and Central Asia. So, during excavations of the Tyutrinsky grave field near the village Suerka in 1981, Natalya and Alexander Matveevs found beads from blue spinel, which is produced only in Hindustan, Sri Lanka and Borneo, and also a miniature (less than 2 cm in length) faience amulet of Harpocrates (Hellenistic tradition of an image of the Ancient Egyptian god Horus). According to Alexander Matveev, the wealth of the Sargats&#39; kurgans may indicate the Ingala Valley was a burial place of representatives of one or more Sargat "royal" families at the beginning of the Common Era, which had a source of enrichment from control of the supply of strategic goods along the Silk Road.</p><br>
<p>A Sargat village discovered in the tract Copper Borok covers an area of 15.5 ha that makes it considered as a town.</p><br>
<h3>Middle Ages</h3><br>
<p>The Middle Ages is represented in the valley with 21 monuments, seven of them belonging to the Bakal culture (9th-15th century), and four belonging to Yudino (10th-13th century). Ten monuments do not have cultural attribution. It is believed that Bakal and Yudino cultures coexisted, but there is a need to justify the earlier date of the Bakal culture to fill the gap in the 300 years after disappearance of the Sargats in the 5th century.</p><br>
<h2>Tourist use</h2><br>
<p>Tourists may be interested in visiting protected areas and objects of cultural heritage located in the valley. Thus, Buzan, Zinovskiy and Khokhlovskiy kurgans in the Yalutorovsky District and Mary&#39;s ravine located in the Isetsky District are the natural monuments of regional significance. <p>There are the archaeological school camp "Issedon" in the Isetsky District and "Lukomorye" in Zavodoukovsk. The Zavodoukovsk History Museum offers an exhibition "Secrets of the Ingala Valley" and summer car tour "An archaeological heritage of the Ingala Valley" along a path Zavodoukovsk - Lybaevo - archaeological sites - Lower Ingal (with customer&#39;s transport).</p><br>
<p>It was announced that in 2013 the "Ingala" sanatorium complex in the Zavodoukovsky District would be put into operation (land area of 13 ha, number of rooms 350 seats), being built to replace the "Niva" resort (not opened yet as of 2014).</p><br>
<p>Missisquoi Bay is a large extension in the northern part of Lake Champlain, at the East of the output of the latter in Richelieu River. It takes the form of a violin head, handle leaving the head of the lake and having about 5 km in diameter. The bay is divided between Quebec in Canada and Vermont in United States. The main town on its banks is Venise-en-Québec, a major summer resort. The river of the same name flows into the bay and the Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge is located on the American side.</p><br>
<h2>Toponymy</h2><br>
<p>Champlain, first governor of New France, was the first European to visit the region. The name that has an Abenaki origin, would mean "a lot of waterfowl" but other senses are also advanced. It appears officially in the eighteenth century in the concession document made on April 6, 1733 to Paul-Louis de Lusignan Dazemard as the "Missiskouy Bay". The graph will change several times. In 1855, when changes to electoral counties of Lower Canada into electoral districts, the Legislature finally adopts the form Missisquoi to designate the county and the region.</p><br>
<h2>Geology</h2><br>

Its beaches are very popular with vacationers in summer and its waters are laced with various pleasure boats, from personal watercraft, boats, etc. In winter, anglers on the ice engage in this activity.</p><br>
<p>The Tazewell County Courthouse, located on Court Street in Pekin, is the county courthouse serving Tazewell County, Illinois. The courthouse was built in 1914 to provide a larger space for county government, which had outgrown the previous courthouse and had begun to spread across multiple buildings. Lincoln, Illinois architects Deal & Ginzel designed the courthouse; the pair was also responsible for two other county courthouse designs in Illinois, in Moultrie County and Logan County. The firm designed the courthouse in the Beaux-Arts style; their design features an arched entrance and windows on the first floor, pavilions with Tuscan columns on the upper two stories, and an entablature and balustrade along the roof.</p><br>
<p>The courthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places on November 14, 1985.</p><br>
